Film sounds

Civil War

Diegetic- sound from within the film world/ sound that the 'characters' can hear.

Direct sound-sound coming from the actors mouth.

Foley sound- is created by the sound artist mimicking the actual sound in a recording studio.

Score and soundtrack

score is instrumental music written to accompany a film.

soundtrack is a song played in the background of a film.

parallel and contrapuntal sound-  We can use the word parallel and contrapuntal to describe the use of music( score or soundtrack) in films.

Parallel- When the music 'goes with' the images i.e dramatic music in a fight scene.

Contrapuntal- When the music 'goes against' the image i.e sombre music over a fight scene.

Sound bridge is a type of editing that occurs when sound carries over a visual transition in a film.

In Civil War the director used Diegetic sound when one of the character's are walking slowly in silence, and then hears a sound from behind and it is someone who he is fighting. The Director used Diegetic sound so that the audience can see that the characters are filled with energy and focused, this will make the audience feel excitement because the scene is building tension with silence, so the audience will be curious of what's going to happen next. Also within the scene there is score, director used a instrumental written by the film company to build up to the climax, audience would feel on edge.

Expository Documentary on Zehra

Documentary modes/types

Expository mode is a regular form of documentary using direct address and directors do this to address the viewer directly, using titles or voices that advance an argument about the historical world,This style of documentary is shown usually on television.

My Group Documentary

The Purpose of the documentary is to show how people with disabilities make their way around the school. Voice-over throughout the entire documentary to make the audience understand what it is about. Time lapses will be used in order to make it look more appealing. Day-to-day routine of what a person with disability has to do. Facts about how many people with disability go to the school, as well as their opinion on how easy it is to make their way around the school.

Questions such as :
         - How long does it take to get to school?
         - Do you think the school is designed to make it easy for people with disabilities to go around               the school?
         - Do you experience any bullying because of this?
         - How hard is it to make your way around when using public transport?
         - How people treat disabled people in the school?

Facts & Statistics :
          - The amount of people with disability going to the school
          - Get a wider view, include the amount of people with disability in London, not just the school.

3 Camera Experiments

Tracking shot

- First of all we used shoulder raid to make the shot more stabled and higher , we took the shot from behind the person but kind of over the shoulder along with making the person i'm working with walk out the college and the scene will cut when someone else walks pass, It was successful because the audience will be able to see where each character is going in one shot.

Focus pull

In the shot one person was in focus, and all the attention was on him along with the background being a blur with me standing there , then i will be in focus when we have a conversation.

180 Rule

I made a script for this shot and the script is about two boys that are talking about girls, we used 180 rule to show their facial expression and how they are engaging within the conversation.

Silhouette

The video explaining silhouette  and soft box

lowkey lighting / high key

low key photography contrasting effects shadows
Black backdrop creates contrast/mood/shadow
Different ways to set up low key photography, ISOS make sure it's low because if its high the photo you take will look too bright.

Light is on 4
Distance light make a difference
Whiteboard is to reflect the light
Good for a profile
Adjust the light to 3

Set up 2
You would have 2 of the lights on a low setting eg 3
Set up 3
Silver brolly
Face it up
Light is on 4 low the light softer

What High Key Photography is? (Infinity lighting)
We want the whole backdrop white,
Two cone light are called flash reflectors, they just need to light the backdrop. (they need to be set up on 4-6 which are the highest settings) the purpose of it is too light the whole backdrop white.
Model light would be on your model, this would add lighting to the setup, if it’s too bright you’ll have to set that backdrop like lower to create the best lighting for your photo.
Your Backlight brings your model (subject) forward,
Silverside of a reflector, give you more contrast so it makes the shadows darker. Silver would be used for black and white pictures generally.
The Gold side of the reflector gives you a warmth colour, and this would be used for coloured images generally.

Get very dramatic and artistic effects
Depends on where you position the projector
Can project through the model to the backdrop or straight onto the backdrop

-Use something called continuous lighting
If you get something from google image the image                    has to have good resolution and get a good sized

Technical and aesthetic

The rule of thirds is a rule of thumb or guideline which applies to the process of composing visual images such as designs films, paintings, and photographs.

The Horizon is the apparent line that separates earth from the sky , which the line divides all visible directions into two categories.

Framing is a technique where you draw attention to the main part of your image by blocking other parts of the image with something in the scene.

Composition the way the various elements in scene  are arranged within the frame.

Depth of field-primarily to isolate the subject from its environment, and it is used a lot in portrait work.

Fine Art

I want to start off with fine art because i want to show off the beauty of melanin  because i feel like  it isn't shown enough and with fine art i will be able to use different styles of art and make it look unique.

photography introduction

What type of photography I am interested in?

J. COLE has featured in many magazine covers for example complex and this style of photography seems to be based on fashion as well as r&b, I like this picture because the colours are bright and show the popular artist in magazine covers as wallpaper along with J.cole looking up, may suggest that they are his idols.

Photo of Tokyo and it is a landscape picture, I like this picture because you can see different colours and they are so bright along with making Tokyo stand out.

I like this picture because of the fashion and the white and black as well as model facial expression, the model makes a calm facial expression.

I like this picture because Anthony Joshua is my idol, and you can see the joy in his face
as well as his physical appearance showing that he is fit, healthy and strong.

Reflection and Evaluation

Screenwriting is one of my strengths because I have experience with it and for the KitKat advert, I knew what to make each character say and do because I made the storyline,  I just know how to make different characters, I think acting has helped me with it as well  because I had to act as different people and it just helps me imagine it more and go into deep thought as if I'm there as a character seeing what is happening. I think I need to remember the layout for screenwriting as well as  learn more about screenwriting,  I even started my own script.

I have learnt a lot about cinematography, especially when I was in a group  working on our project KitKat advert, I knew that teamwork was important for this project because working well together as a unit we are able to accomplish more than its individual members can do alone, and I work really well within a group because I encourage people within the group to achieve their goals and they may not have realised they could reach on their own along with I make sure no one is left out or feels nervous and everyone is getting along with each other. My role in the project was being a director but I didn't just focus on my ideas for the project asked everyone opinion, for example, when I and my teammates were talking about the settings and everyone thought of different places instead of me saying let's just use my setting, I made everyone setting fit within the storyline . I did this so that my teammates feel that we are a team and we are equal, also I knew wasn't good at filming or editing so I took a role that suited me more, however, I did still try to film and edit  even though that wasn't my strong point but my teammates that have experience in it guided me and helped me, I knew what kind of shots I wanted to take for our advert , so I tried to film it with T guiding me but I was failing even though I was failing I wasn't trying to give up because I know I can improve within filming.

Furthermore, we had a problem where we couldn't fit everything from our storyline into the advert because of the advert would be too long, so I decided to sacrifice my ideas from the storyline and improve on my teammate's ideas as well as helping them confront their fears being in front of the camera. I am an experienced actor and I wanted everyone to be in front of the camera along with everyone trying different roles even if they struggled at it, I  made sure everyone can experience something different and not just something they are used to, so we can all learn new things that can benefit us. I thought about types of shots we are going to use in our advert so we can make our advert look more engaging.

Editing for me has always been a struggle, to be honest, I am inexperienced but I am improving on using premiere where you edit videos, and when I had to put a short horror clip together and I was struggling in the beginning but got helped along with me improving on it, I think for me I have to practice on it more but I am getting hang of it. Also photoshop I often forget how to use the tools, and I think any project that will have to do with photoshop I will struggle in, my advert print for KitKat for me could have done way better.

I would say my role is being a director, always have ideas on what to do for each project and lead at the same time as well as I have good communication skills, my three main targets are working on Photoshop improve on using it, editing videos, I need to film more.
